According to data from the Energy Information Administration of the US Department of Energy (EIA), the United States, despite the difficulties of COVID-19 pandemic and ambiguous energy policy in relation to the Russian Federation, by the end of 2020 again increased the import of Russian oil and oil products to the maximum since 2011 or 538,000 barrels per day, while the Russian share in total volume reached a record 7%.

In annual terms, imports from the Russian Federation increased by 3.5%. Russia became the second largest exporter of oil and petroleum products to the United States, removing from this position traditionally one of the largest suppliers –Saudi Arabia.

The Russian share in the average daily imports of oil and petroleum products to the United States last year reached a record – almost 7%. Even 20 years ago, it did not exceed 1%, breaking this threshold only in 2001 and reaching 5.5% in 2011, and then declining and again rising to 5.7% in 2019.
